Matthew Todd Jackson

April 7, 1973 — August 25, 2023

Matthew Todd Jackson (born Garnet Antonio Taylor de Lam), son of R. Kern and Diana Jackson, was born on April 7, 1973 in Laguna de Perlas, Nicaragua.  He died in Oklahoma on August 25, 2023.  He is survived by his parents Kern and Diana Jackson of Medical Lake, WA; sister Rebecca Hartman and her husband Victor of Spokane, WA; Lauri Sproule and her husband Dan and their children Anna, Aaron, Ellen, Isaac, Adalyn and Emmett of Medical Lake, WA; and his brother R. Kern Jackson Jr. and his wife KaDee.  He is survived by many members of his extended family.  He is also survived by his biological parents Hilda Lam and Ludwig Taylor of Nicaragua, along with numerous siblings and extended family members.

Kern and Diana met Matthew while working at a small Moravian hospital in Puerto Cabezas, Nicaragua.  He came to the hospital as a baby needing much physical care and quickly captured their hearts as they cared for him.  He became part of the Jackson family through adoption.  Soon after, the Jackson family moved back to Oklahoma where Matthew lived most of his life.

Matthew graduated from McAlester High School in McAlester, Oklahoma in 1991.  He served in the Coast Guard from 2000-2008 and was based in Maine and Virginia.  Matthew returned to Oklahoma where he worked as a commercial truck driver for many years.

Matthew loved his family and friends well.  He always enjoyed making people laugh.  He also had a special gift for connecting with children of all ages.  He loved to make them laugh too.  His nieces and nephews loved this about him. He will be deeply missed.

A memorial service will be held on Monday, September 25, 2023 at 1:00PM at the Veterans’ Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA.
