Margie Lee Stermer, a wonderful daughter, mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend left this earth peacefully on July 15, 2023, at the age of 84. She was the oldest of three children born to Ike and Marie Bottoms on April 1, 1939, in Checotah, Oklahoma.

Margie grew up in Onapa, Oklahoma. After graduating high school, she was offered a scholarship to play basketball for Southeastern. She played basketball when girls only played half-court, and she played defense.

In 1962, Margie met the love of her life, Leland Ross Stermer. They were married and started a family. Phillip (Teresa), Ross, Bobby (LaDawn). Margie’s legacy continues with 6 grandkids, 8 great-grandkids with her ninth on the way in August, and several nieces and nephews.

Margie and Leland enjoyed the local music scene where Leland was the bass player and singer for the Westerneers. They spent a lot of time dancing and enjoying the music. They enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. They loved traveling to Old Mexico to fish always catching more than the limit. Margie and Leland owned a craft business. They would travel Oklahoma selling potpourri baskets, foam lizards, and pop guns.

Margie’s happy place was outside in the sun gardening. She loved spending time with her grandkids, decorating for the holidays, and cooking and canning. She loved hosting her family and friends for the holidays.

Margie is preceded in death by her dad Ike Bottoms, husband Leland Stermer, mom Marie Bottoms, sisters June Taylor and Wilma Cooper.

Margie will be remembered in so many ways. We will miss her so much!
