Linda Hood Hicks

May 1, 1950 — February 10, 2022

Linda Hood Hicks was born May 1, 1950 in Pasadena, California, to William and Irene Hood. She passed away February 10 at her home in Edmond, Oklahoma and went to be with her God with dignity and grace. Linda was preceded in death by her parents and her younger brother, Robert Hood. She attended elementary school in Bryan, Ohio. At age 13 her family moved to Blackwell, Oklahoma. After graduating from Blackwell High School, she studied journalism at Oklahoma State University. After college she moved to Oklahoma City where she dedicated more than 25 years working as the pastor's assistant at First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City. She enjoyed working with Dr. Gene Garrison and later with Dr. Mack Roark and Dr. Jeff Zurheide. During that time she also helped organize Oklahoma Women in Baptist Life, an organization devoted to helping women fulfill their call to ministry. After working at the church, Linda worked for the Oklahoma Hospital Association and the Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science and Technology (OCAST). On March 10, 1979 she married Alan Hicks. They enjoyed almost 43 years together. On May 31, 1986 they were thrilled to adopt Caroline from South Korea. In June 2017 Linda was diagnosed with advanced stage ovarian cancer. She fought the "beast," as she called it, fiercely. We will be forever grateful to the team of medical professionals at Stephenson Cancer Center first led by Dr. Camille Gunderson-Jackson then by Dr. Kathleen Moore and to Linda's primary physician Dr. Jeffrey Hodgden. Linda was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oklahoma City for nearly 50 years. She enjoyed singing in the choir and was ordained as a deacon last year. Linda was a gifted writer and artist. She also enjoyed gardening, home decorating and traveling. Her greatest joy was her family. Linda is survived by her husband Alan, daughter Caroline, son-in-law Travis York, grandsons Nathan and Caleb York and a wonderful group of other family and friends. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm February 18 at First Baptist Church, 1201 North Robinson, OKC.
