LaRae Jane Poore

August 13, 1931 — April 30, 2025

Norman, Oklahoma

LaRae Jane Poore flew into the waiting arms of her heavenly family on April 30, 2025. She was born on August 13, 1931 to Minford (“Mince”) and Ruth Johnson in Geary, Oklahoma. She graduated from Erick High School in 1949. During her senior year, through mutual friends, she met Henry Poore, a young World War II Navy veteran. They fell in love immediately and were married in June of 1949, shortly after she graduated from high school. They were together just short of 64 years, until Henry passed in 2013.

Jane and Henry made their first home in Grand Prairie, Texas, and later moved to Hydro OK, Altus OK, Sulphur OK and finally to Norman in 1959. Not long after their arrival in Norman they purchased their home on McFarland Street, where Jane continued to live until 2023. Together they welcomed three sons and a daughter, for whom Jane was an amazing, loving mother.

Jane helped develop the Mother’s Day Out program at First Christian Church. Henry and Jane joined McFarlin Memorial United Methodist church in 1959, where she sang in the Chancel Choir at one time and attended the Fellowship Sunday school class. She served as the Assistant Director of the McFarlin Day Care program; that program’s excellence is still widely known today, thanks largely to the dedication and integrity Jane brought to it. She was a charter member of the Oklahoma FB chapter of P.E.O. since 1969, and also served as a Proctor for the Oklahoma Bar Examination for many years. She was a formidable player of Rummikub and Skip-Bo.

Her parents preceded her in death, as did her beloved Henry, two sons Steve and Robert, her sister Helen, and a number of beloved pets. She leaves behind for now her son Jack Poore (Debi) of Norman, her daughter Nancy Jane Poore Smith (David) of Norman, daughter-in-law Nancy Lynn Poore, her brother Lee Johnson (Patsy), eleven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild,as well as six nieces, a nephew, several of whom bear the name “Jane” in her honor, and all of whom are heartbroken at the loss of their dear “Tu Tu.”

Jane was a special woman, one of God’s true angels on Earth. She was a woman of great faith who loved children and lived her faith every day with love and kindness. Each of us will mourn her and keep her in our hearts until we are together again.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests generous donations to any organization serving Veterans, and Second Chance Animal Rescue in Norman.
