Obituary

Kathleen "Kathy" Susan Mayfield, née McGee, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in her beloved hometown of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Born on August 13, 1948, Kathy’s life was a testament to generosity, unwavering faith, and heartfelt compassion.

From the very beginning, Kathy was a beacon of kindness and love. Daughter to Randy and Lou McGee (née Harth), both now deceased, she carried forward the values instilled in her by her family. She was known not only for her steadfast sense of humor but also for her profound spiritual commitment—a prayer warrior whose first instinct was always to ask, “How can I pray for you?”

Kathy embraced her career as a bail bondsman with a unique compassion, seeing it not merely as a job but as an opportunity to extend care, offer spiritual counsel, and share the love of Christ. Her ability to connect with people in their most vulnerable moments revealed the depth of her generous soul and her servant’s heart.

She was much more than a professional or a faithful follower; Kathy was, to many, a beloved mother figure and true matriarch. Over the last two decades, she found immense joy and purpose volunteering with Celebrate Recovery. There, she devoted herself as a prayer team member, step study leader, share group leader, newcomer leader, sponsor, accountability partner, prayer partner, and greeter. Her devotion to the Lord and her Celebrate Recovery family shone brightly, reflecting the very essence of her spirit.

Kathy’s family was the center of her universe. At the time of her passing, she was married to Cecil Edgar Mayfield (Ed), her beloved husband for 32 years. Through this union, she was stepmother to Alexis Mayfield—her cherished stepdaughter, who passed away recently.

Kathy’s second marriage was to Danny Lay (deceased), through which she was stepmother to Danielle Bouldin (Lay).

From her first marriage to John W. Vick (deceased), she was the loving mother of Shannon Kathleen Hertzler (Vick) and John William Vick. Shannon is married to Rusty Hertzler, and together they have three children: Jordan (married to Jared Dachroeden), Ethan, and Evan. John William Vick is married to Deanne (Thompson) and has two sons from a previous marriage to Rebecca (Stucky), John Hardy Vick and Joshua William Vick, along with two stepsons, Andrew and Jacob. John Hardy Vick is married to Madison and together they blessed Kathy with two great-granddaughters, Lela and Eden. Joshua William Vick is married to Karsan.

She is survived by her living brother, Greg Kinnebrew; stepsister Cindy Streun, née Belvin; and half-brother Patrick McGee. She was preceded in death by her sister Denise Scrivner, parents Randy and Lou McGee, her husbands John W. Vick and Danny Lay, and her stepdaughter Alexis Mayfield.

Kathy’s deep faith guided every aspect of her life, reminding all who knew her that “the happiest people don’t have the best of everything; they just make the best of everything they have.” Her legacy of love, faith, and kindness continues to inspire her family, friends, and community.

A memorial service to celebrate Kathy’s remarkable life will be held on May 29, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Crossings Community Church - Chapel, 14600 Portland Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73134.

As we remember her gentle spirit and the countless ways she touched our lives, we hold close the words that may have best described her approach to life: Kathy led by example, leaving a lasting imprint through her actions, her prayers, and her love. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered with profound affection and gratitude.
