Gerry Schoenig Beloved father, grandfather, and cherished friend, was born on August 14, 1935, in Germany. After a long and impactful life, he passed away on January 29, 2026, at the age of 90. He went to join His beloved wife, Susi, who was already with our Heavenly Father.
Gerry left his small farming village in Germany to travel to the United States at the age of 17 to start a “better life”. Living through the war had many challenges. He started his career in New York City as a professional chef. While on board the Ship traveling from Germany to Ellis Island, he met the love of his life, Susi. They eventually married and settled in Wisconsin. They were married for over 60 years.
In Wisconsin, he continued his long career as a professional chef at a well-known five-star restaurant in Wisconsin. He loved serving people and making sure that everyone enjoyed all of his amazing cuisine. He loved cooking but more than anything, his big love was his family. He also loved gardening, working out at the gym, watching every Green Bay Packer game, and classical music.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Sandi Novak, and son-in-law Phil. Grandchildren, Ally, PJ, Karina, and Nick. His family was always first in his life and more important than anything, especially his grandchildren, whom he adored. We were honored and blessed to have him in our lives as long as we did. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
A funeral service is planned for 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Corbett Funeral & Cremation located at 807 W. Wilshire Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK 73116. Gerry will be laid to rest in Wisconsin, beside his beloved Susi.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the YWCA Oklahoma City http://ywcaokc.org/donate or to the Oklahoma Children’s Hospital.Donate to Oklahoma Children's Hospital
