George Sherwood Waltman Jr, 72, went to be at his eternal home on August 18, 2022. He was born March 8, 1950 in Charlotte NC to George and Martha (Leeper) Waltman. He is survived by his son, Benjamin David Waltman of Edmond, OK., sister, Janice Williams of Lancaster, SC, and his faithful old Red Heeler dog, named Bella.
For years he worked in the upper management of the restaurant industry. In Jacksonville Florida, he opened up three seafood and steak restaurants and named them after his son, “Benjamin’s”. Later he was offered a partnership in the Santa Fe Restaurant chain and with his ex-wife, Sandy and son, Benjamin moved to Nashville, Ten. and then in 1999 to Edmond, Oklahoma, where he lived until his death.
One of George’s loves was to be on the golf course. He was an avid golfer and in his younger days won many golf tournaments. It was the golf club that wielded all of George’s frustrations and often during a game, you would see a 9-iron flying through the air. He also loved to buy and sell other people’s stuff. If you ever needed anything George either had it or would find it for you. If he wasn’t on the golf course, you could find George spending his Saturdays at the flea market buying and selling or at the storage locker auctions buying what others had left behind.
All of his golf buddies, card playing buddies, neighbors and fellow junk collectors will remember George as the cantankerous yet helpful and generous man who would, in his later years, give the shirt off his own back to help someone in need.
