Garry Mark Clagg

June 23, 1953 — July 5, 2025

Norman, Oklahoma

Garry Mark Clagg, at the age of 72, passed from this life on this earth on Saturday, July 5th, 2025, at his home in Norman, Oklahoma, surrounded by his loved ones.

Garry was the son of Phillip Samuel Clagg and Lena Ethel (Wollenberg) Clagg. He was born on June 23rd, 1953, in Purcell, Oklahoma.

Garry attended school in Wayne, Oklahoma, as a Bulldog with the graduating class of 1971. He had honors in FFA, even taking a lamb that his brother Larry bought for $10 all the way to win first place at the McClain County finals, and honors in auto mechanics. He attended Murray State College for a year and a half.

In August of 1973, Garry invited Lana Gaye Music to attend church with him. They were married February 1st, 1974, in the same classroom where they had their first date at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Purcell, Oklahoma. They never quit dating for 51 and a half years.

Garry retired from the Oklahoma City Fire Department in 2020 after 14 and a half years of loyal service. He served as an ASE Fire Apparatus Technician Master Level II, and held a CDL-Class A, B, C, D. He was qualified to operate multi-passenger vehicles, drive tanks, haul double or triple trailers, and had HAZMAT Certification.

Through the decades, Garry built a life marked by quiet strength, deep faith, and generosity. He was known for his ready smile and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need—traits that earned him the respect and affection of his community. Whether in the shop tuning an engine or gathering around a kitchen table for conversation and laughter, Garry's presence brought comfort and warmth. He believed in the importance of family traditions, celebrating holidays and milestones with a sense of gratitude and humility.

He went from working on “Red” Farmall tractors, where he specialized in engine repairs and maintenance, to working on red fire trucks, ensuring they were always ready for emergencies. Many people often refer to him as the “smartest or the best mechanic they ever met,” a testament to his exceptional skills, work ethic, and dedication. His career spanned many years, including time at the Western Company in the Oil Field, where he was a valuable asset.

Garry was a faithful member of the Robinson Street Baptist Church. Garry’s integrity and work ethic shaped not only his professional life but also the legacy he leaves in the hearts of his children and grandchildren. He taught those around him the value of perseverance, kindness, and faith—a foundation upon which his family will continue to stand for generations to come.

Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Lena Clagg; his stepmother, Gaye Clagg, an infant sister; and his brother Larry Clagg.

Garry is survived by his wife Lana Gaye (Music) Clagg; his daughter Staci Branch and her husband Lee Branch, their children Sami Branch, Megan Fitzmorris and her husband Jack, Drake and Briana, and honorary son Cahill Portwood; his son Garry Mark Clagg II, his children Shae Clagg, Bebe Clagg, and Isaac Vass and his wife Rebecca, and their son Jacob (the only great-grandchild); his daughter Emiley Anne (Clagg) Kuehn, her husband Chaz, her children Kolton, DJ, and Keeley; his brother Barry Clagg and his wife Sue; two sisters, Phyllis Davis and Weeta Easton and her husband Alvin; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, other family, neighbors and lifelong friends.
