He was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on September 12, 1946. His parents, sister Zethel, and his brother Elvis, preceded him in death. Daniel was educated in the Oklahoma City Public School System. He graduated from Douglass High School in 1966. Daniel accepted Christ (or the man upstairs as he called it) at an early age while attending Ballard’s Temple in West Town. He joined the United States Army after graduation. He served in the Vietnam War and overseas. He received an honorable discharge in 1969. Daniel married Brenda Smallwood Shaw in January 1970. To this union 3 children were born. He worked various jobs throughout his career, but retired from H.I.S. Paint in 2008. His health failed in 2011 and he eventually moved in with his sister and brother in law, Zelder and Randell Dukes. When physically able, he attended Revival Worship Center. Zelder and Randall Dukes children, Charlotte Mewborn, Randell Dukes Jr., Ramona Jeffries, Cameron Dukes, and Lekeytha Shaw, all assisted with Daniel’s care. Grandchildren of Zelder and Randall Dukes, Keylan Shaw, Miyaunna Dukes, Turan Dukes, T’Miyah Jeffries, T’Aunna Jeffries, Kuriel Traywicks, Alandis Dukes, Kae’Lah Dukes, Kastaesia Starks, and Cawan Shaw also assisted. Others that assisted were Daniel’s sister and brother, Kathryn Bowens and Cleveland Jones, and his children. Left to cherish the memories of him are his 2 sons, Daniel Shaw (Tammy) and Ronnie Shaw, both of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter, Denise Hyche (Shaun) of Spencer, Oklahoma; sisters Zelder Dukes (Randell) of Spencer, Oklahoma and Kathryn Bowens of Oklahoma City; brother Cleveland Jones (Pat) of Oklahoma City, and aunt Minnie Ola Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind 6 grandchildren, Shaun Hyche, Jr., Korey Hyche, Darren Shaw, Derek Shaw, Tamia Shaw, Lillie Shaw and many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
