Carl Ray Liles

Former Anadarko resident, Carl Liles, passed away at his home in The Village, OK, on Wednesday, December 17, 2008, after a short battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Anadarko. He was born April 3, 1953, in Sentinel, OK, to Harold Ray and Lora Lee (Clark) Liles. He graduated from Anadarko High School in 1971 and attended Oklahoma State University where he majored in Economics and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 1975 and was a member of Delta Sigma Pi. He received his Masters Degree in Business Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He received his Eagle Scout Award at age 13 as a 7th grade student and considered that to be one of his greatest accomplishments. He volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America in Anadarko for many years as a merit badge counselor, was a Den Leader for both his sons"™ scout troops and volunteered with the Frontier Council of Boy Scouts in Oklahoma City. After graduating from college, Liles worked for the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank in Wichita, Kansas, and Chickasha Production Credit Association in Chickasha. He was also employed by Pioneer Savings and Trust Company in Anadarko, where he served as Branch Manager. Liles was later employed by Western Farmers Electric Cooperative where he was Director of Purchasing and Material Control for many years. He was a Certified Purchasing Manager and was an inventory and supply consultant for the National Rural Electric Cooperative (NRECA). He was a long-time member of the National Association of Purchasing Managers (NAPM) and served as national president. During his term as president of the NAPM organization, Liles received the Solon Bennett Award for Excellence in Purchasing and Supply Chain Management. He taught classes on inventory, warehousing and supply management throughout the United States to Statewide Cooperative Associations in conjunction with NRECA. For the past year, Liles had worked for East Kentucky Power Coop, in Winchester, KY, as the Warehouse and Inventory Supervisor and Supply Chain Manager. Liles was integral in the establishment of Logistics Planning Services in Mendota Heights, MN, and was a key consultant for the company until his illness forced him to retire. Liles was an adjunct faculty member for the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha for over 20 years where he taught evening business classes. He had served on the faculty for the University of Phoenix on both the Oklahoma City and Norman campuses as well as having taught evening classes for DeVry University in Oklahoma City. He was elected to the Anadarko City Council and was the councilman that made the motion to purchase and renovate the current Anadarko Community Library. Liles was a Life Member of the Oklahoma State University Alumni Association and the Caddo County OSU Alumni Association. He was recognized as an outstanding alumni member by OSU in 2002. He was a former member of the Anadarko Riding Club and the Anadarko 4-H and FFA Booster Club where he received the Honorary Chapter Degree. He was a coach for many years with the Anadarko Summer Youth Program and the Anadarko Youth Basketball League. He was also active in the Anadarko All-Sports Booster Club while his children were in high school. Liles and his family raised registered Hereford cattle and he was a member of the National Hereford Association. He was a member for many years of the Anadarko Noon Lion"™s Club where he was a former president of the group and served on the Red Oak Association Board of Directors. Liles and his family were former members of the First Christian Church in Anadarko, where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Chairman of the Board. At the time of his death he was a member of the Britton Christian Church in Oklahoma City. Carl married the former Trina Grider, on June 22, 1973, in Anadarko. The couple made their home in Anadarko until 2006 when they moved to Oklahoma City. He is survived by his wife of the home and their three children; son, T.J. Liles of Perkins; daughter and son-in-law Traci and Will McKee of Ponca City; son, Terron Liles of Coyle; sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Jeff Martin of Angel Fire, New Mexico; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Buddy and Terri Alexander of Anadarko; brother-in-law, Tommy Grider of John"™s Island, South Carolina; his wife"™s parents, Gene and Polly Grider of Anadarko and his granddaughter, Ella Renee McKee of Ponca City; step-grandson, Dayton Moser of Medford; two nieces, Jessica McDonald and her husband Waylon and two sons Noah and Dylan of Goodyear, Arizona; Jill Ishee and her husband, Brandon, of Conroe, Texas, and one nephew, Jackson Alexander of Anadarko. The services will be held on Saturday, December 20th at 2:00 p.m. at the 1st Christian Church in Anadarko, OK.
