Buddy Barnett

BUD A. BARNETT-AGE 83 of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Passed from this life on August 6th, 2015. He was born in Los Angeles, California on July 17, 1932 to Raymond L. and Ruby Barnett and raised in California with his 5-brothers Les, Wally, Lee, Doug and Buck. He lived in California until the age of 16 and moved to Childers, Oklahoma and lived in Childers until he got married to Betty Ruth Woody at the age of 18 and moved back to Compton, California for eight-years. While in California he worked as a cabinet maker, he and Betty were blessed with their daughter Deborah Lynn in 1953 and then their son John Ray in 1956. The couple got homesick for Oklahoma and decided to move back in 1959. They settled in Oklahoma City where he continued his cabinet work, worked as a maintenance man at Doyle Willis Landscaping and later operating his own business known as “Bud’s Tractor Work” and later opened a cabinet shop in Britton known as “Bud’s Cabinet Shop”. Bud obtained his GED in 1987 at the age of 55. He was a citizen of the Cherokee tribe. Bud wrote poetry and read it at the Cowboy Hall of Fame. He was preceeded in death by his parents; brothers Les, Wally and Lee. Bud is survived by his wife, Betty; Daughter, Debbie Bass and husband Terry; Son, John Barnett of Oklahoma City. Grandchildren, Sheri Nickel and husband Darrin of Shattuck, OK; Wendy Ogden and husband Chuck of Yukon, OK; and Terry Bass, Jr. and wife Holley of Ft. Sill, OK. Great-Grandchildren, Samantha Nickel, Dillon Nickel, Emily Ogden, Hunter Ogden, Justin Bass and Lilley Bass. Also survived and adored by many nieces and nephews. And his dog Peaches. Per Bud’s request, a private family service was held at the time of his death and his remains were cremated. A cookout will be held at a later date, upon the return of his grandson, Terry Jr. from his overseas duties with the Army.
