Del City

Alma Gwen Barnes a devoted wife, mother and grammy has gone to be with the Lord on February 9th 2024. Alma Gwen Barnes was born in Wilburton,  Oklahoma on January 15th, 1942. She graduated from Fontana Highschool in California. Her family moved back to Wilburton, Oklahoma.  Alma “Gwen” Barnes married Auther Dewayne Barnes on June 18th 1960 and were happily married for 47 years. She worked at the college in Wilburton. Gwen also worked as the Administrator for two nursing homes in Blackwell, Oklahoma, until her husband Auther Dewayne Barnes retired from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol. When they then moved to Oklahoma City that is where she retired and spent her days doing what she loves most being a mother and grandmother. Alma “ Gwen” Barnes loved God, cooking homemade Italian food, sewing, shopping for unique jewelry and baking.

She is preceded by her husband Auther Dewayne Barnes and her father Orville Bud Carey and mother Alma Carey and paternal and maternal grandparents.  Alma leaves behind three daughters Lori, Jina and Wendy and son Jeffery. She is also survived by nine grandchildren Tyler, Jaden, Korbyn, Savannah, Jacob, Spencer, Tristen, Chase and Colt. Daughter in laws Amber and Caryn and son in laws Kurt and Kevin.  Great grandchildren Michael and Elleigh.

Go rest high on that mountain top and let your body rest. We will forever miss and love you.

A limb has fallen from the family tree I keep hearing a voice that says. Grieve not for me. Remember the best times the laughter, joy and time spent together. The good life I lived while my body was strong. Continue my heritage, I am counting on all to keep smiling and one day the sun will break through and shine again. My mind and body are at ease and my soul is now at rest remembering how I was so truly blessed. Continue to gather no matter how small or large. Go on with your lives and please don’t worry for now I am truly at peace. Don’t worry about the fall for it’s just a part of life but forever remember you children will still be my life. So I ask of all you to keep up your chin and know my heart is still with you until we all meet again. “Mom”
