Thomas Ryan Glover

May 9, 1932 — May 29, 2020

Thomas Ryan Glover passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children, on May 29, 2020. Tom was born May 9, 1932 in Oklahoma City to Minnie Margaret (Taylor) and James Ryan Glover and was a 1950 graduate of Classen High School. He attended the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and was a graduate of the University of Texas, Austin with a degree in Architecture. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. Tom was commissioned as an officer in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Yokosuka, Japan and also at the U.S. Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, Texas. Tom married the love of his life, Hyla Hyde Harding, in 1958 and returned to Austin as a faculty member in the School of Architecture at the University of Texas. Tom and Hyla returned to Oklahoma City in 1961 where Tom became Vice President and Director of Design for HTB Architects and Engineers. In 1978, he was a founding partner of Glover Smith Bode, Inc. (GSB, Inc.), a nationally recognized architecture firm. The firm has designed projects ranging from luxury resorts, hotels, casinos, convention facilities, resort residences and resort amenities, as well as civic, commercial, educational and banking facilities. Tom's favorite project was the home he designed for his family, which they have loved for more than 50 years. Tom was an active member of Mayflower Congregational UCC Church and volunteered for many years with Rebuilding Together OKC. He enjoyed golf, sailing, watercolor and acrylic painting, home remodeling and personal and volunteer construction projects. Tom was an avid sailor, building two sailboats that he enjoyed racing at Lake Hefner as a member of the Oklahoma City Boat Club. Tom always felt he led a charmed life and was grateful for his career as an architect, his professional associates, his family and his friends. Tom was preceded in death by Hyla, his loving wife of 58 years. He is survived by their three children, daughter, Kathryn Clare Carrington and her husband Michael Mowrey, two sons, David Harding Glover and his partner Jayne DePanfilis and James Ryan Glover, Oklahoma City; grandsons, John N. Carrington, III, his wife Lauren of Greenville, SC; and Thomas Ryan Carrington and his fiancée, Bea Baker of Tulsa, OK. Tom will be honored in a family service later this month, and although the current time prevents us from gathering with everyone who is mourning, we know you will surround the family with love and prayers. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a contribution in Tom's memory to: Rebuilding Together Oklahoma City, 945 West Wilshire Blvd., Oklahoma City, OK 73116; the General Fund of Mayflower Congregational Church or to the charitable organization of your choice.
