She was a Stephen Minister for All Souls Episcopal Church, and an active alumna with Delta Zeta sorority. Known as Chickie, she cherished her time with her sorority sisters and her younger sisters: Betty Lawler, who can now welcome her to heaven, and Martha Brooks Andrus. No sisters were closer than the three of them. They were always together for birthdays and holidays, but grew closest growing up in the backseat of a hot Cadillac in the 1950’s on one of their father’s many business trips. Chickie always welcomed family into her home where many relatives lived at one time or another throughout their lives. She said, “Home is where they have to take you in!” and took that motto to heart. Her son, Tom, was her pride and joy. She loved to sit and sing and laugh and eat ice cream with him. She shared meals, jokes and politics with her niece, Robin, who took care of her until the very end of her life. She was astute at crossword puzzles, bridge and Scrabble. She was lovingly fond of her dog, Fiona. She had a soft heart for all animals and enjoyed 50’s and 60’s music, especially Frank Sinatra. Chickie had a quick wit, an infectious laugh and unending generosity. She would give her last cent to anyone who asked for it. She loved God faithfully without restraint.
