Richard Georgi

d. August 12, 2012

On September 15th, 1952, in Port Jervis, New York Richard Georgi was born to Shirley and Ernest Georgi. As a child he spent many years on the family farm with his sister Kathy. While there he learned the ways of the land and how to hunt. In high school he enjoyed being involved in men's gymnastics, specifically the rings and uneven bars. Upon graduating high school he married his 1st wife Elizabeth Zaleski. They then had their 1st child (Janet Olson)in 1973. In 1973 at the age of 21 he joined the United States Air Force. During his 20yrs. serving in the Air Force he traveled all around the world. He was part of the Vietnam war where he took in air pictures for intelligence. In 1978 (while stationed in Turkey) he and Elizabeth had their second child (Erik Georgi) From there he studied chemical and nuclear warfare. While stationed in Korea, he met and married his second wife Sun Cha. From there his progress was classified but we do know he trained others in his skill. He continued in his line of duty until retirement in 1993. From there he worked as a supervisor for MD products. During this time he was involved with the Guthrie Gun Fighters where he helped reenact the gun fighting stories of the "Old West". From there he went to work for Johnson Controls. Richard was a very young hearted man who loved his family and friends. He was also very easy going and laid back but always tried to be funny or crack a joke. He also enjoyed helping his wife Sun Cha raise and sell dogs. He loved fishing and gun shows.   On April 28th 2011 Richard was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer. In the beginning of his diagnosis he was not supposed to make it past 6 months but he put up a fierce fight. He fought every step of the way and never gave up once. He defeated the odds against him, but sadly the Cancer took him away from us on the 12th of August 2012. Richard is survived by his wife, Sun Cha Georgi of Jones, his daughter Janet Olson of Wellston, son Erik Georgi of Okmulgee, 5 grandchildren of Okmulgee, his mother Shirley Georgi of New York, sister Kathy and her husband Bill Walsh and their son Tristan Hinkley of New York. He is also survived by ex-wife Elizabeth Zaleski of Odessa Texas. In his children's eyes he will always be considered their own personal HERO!!!  Richard's family made the generous gift of donating his body to science for medical research, innovation and education through the GenLife Institute.
