Lester Junior Walters

June 13, 1928 — January 18, 2015

Lester J. Walters passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2015. He is survived by his two sons: Ray Walters of McKinney, TX; Dwain Walters of Tulsa, OK; and his only grandchild, Mikael Walters of Irving, TX. Lester was born on June 13, 1928, in Inola, OK. He was 1 of 10 siblings, and is survived by Clarence Walters of Norman, OK; JB Walters of Collinsville, OK; Robert Walters of Oklahoma City, OK; Vivian Hogue of Broken Arrow, OK; Dorothy Lewis of Asotin, WA; and Helen Carpenter of Skiatook, OK. Despite only having an 8th grade education, Lester owned and operated a donut shop prior to April 1949 when he enlisted and served close to 5 years in the U.S. Marine Corps returning home as a Radio Repairman in Claremore, OK. He then joined the U.S. Air Force in June 1959 specializing as a Radio Relay Equipment Technician and Electronic Warfare Systems Technician for 16 years. He retired from the military after 21 years of Honorable service and returned to Claremore, OK in May 1975. He then worked in the oil and gas industry in Tulsa, OK, manufacturing control panels before finally retiring in 1985. Lester not only persevered, but exemplified ambition, persistence, and work ethic. He was a role model not only to his generation but for many to come. Lester was known for his generosity of time, commitment to family, and dedication to God. His lifelong passion was church, Western films, fishing, and his only grandchild, Mikael. No distance was too far for his family as he traveled to Japan, Germany, as well as many US states to visit or assist. He exemplified a giving spirit and loving heart. Lester may have appeared frugal to some, but he was extremely generous to noble causes, charitable contributions and random acts of kindness. You could always count on Lester to jump in at a moment’s notice when anyone was in need. He will be remembered fondly, with love and laughter for the lasting impression he has left on all those whose lives he had touched.
