Harvard Lynn Tomlinson Sr.

Harvard Lynn Tomlinson Sr. passed away Saturday, June 03, 2017 while surrounded by family. He was born March 31, 1937 at Weedn Hospital in Duncan, OK. to H.B. and Maxine Shipman Tomlinson. Harvard graduated from Stillwater High School in 1954 and moved to California to work for a catering company. He and Judy Douglas were married November 20, 1955. They returned to California where Harv was accepted into U.S. Navy Electronic Technician school at Treasure Island. He served 3 years active duty then returned to Oklahoma where he enrolled in OSU, graduating with a M.S. in Electrical Engineering in 1964. Upon graduation in August 1964, he was employed by Texas Instruments in Dallas. Harvard was a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Oklahoma. Harvard also obtained a BS in Business from Cameron University in 1977. In July 1971, Harvard moved his family to Duncan where he worked for ASCOG. He proudly served in the Oklahoma National Guard and completed 21 years of military service. In August 1972, he was hired by Halliburton Services and was there for 21 years before pursuing another engineering opportunity in North Carolina. He then retired and moved back to Duncan to start a vineyard and continue working in his oilfield equipment import-export company. Harvard was an ardent supporter of higher education. In February, 2000 Cameron University established the Harvard L. and Judith D. Tomlinson of Duncan Endowed Fellowship in the Physical Sciences at Cameron University. During his life, Harvard had many interests including alternate crops in Oklahoma which led to his love of Oenology and Viticulture. He really enjoyed hosting wine tastings and open houses at his vineyard, Sunset Ridge near Marlow. Harvard had gardens and enjoyed sharing his bountiful harvest with his family. Harvard was an artist, member and past president of the Duncan Art Guild. Harvard enjoyed growing grapes, making wine and sharing with friends and family. Later in life, Harvard enjoyed traveling to Europe, especially to France. Earlier in life, he spent time camping and fishing with his family. Harvard is survived by his wife Judy of 61 years, his five children, H. Lynn Tomlinson, Jr. and wife Sheri, of Leonard, OK; Alan G. Tomlinson and wife Lisa of Mebane, NC; Jeff K. Tomlinson and wife Eva, Carmel, IN; Toby S. Tomlinson of Boulder, CO; Tiffany Schilling and husband Mike, Oklahoma City, OK; eight grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He is survived by his twin brother, Harold Glen Tomlinson and wife June of Marlow; sister, Jean Kingsley, Duncan and 6 nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his older sister, Shirley. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Duncan First United Methodist Church Columbarium Fund.
